Let’s face it. Makeup is fun. It lets us play with different colors and create unique looks. Since we tend to  use a lot of makeup products and tools, it is important to keep them clean all thetime. If you are not careful, you can get infections from your make up products. So…here are some tips to help keep you safe from infections and other nasty problems.

HOW TO AVOID INFECTIONS FROM MAKE UP

 1. Review  Expiration Dates

Sadly, when it comes to makeup, nothing lasts forever. Just like milk or eggs, each of your products has its own expiration date.  Review your products expiration dates so  you will know when to throw away your old stuff. It’s better to get rid of  the old rather than have it stay in storage, collecting mold, mildew and bacteria.

 2.  Avoid the Bathroom

This sounds like a no brainer, but how many of us keep our makeup in the bathroom? Because it is a breeding ground for bacteria, you should always avoid keeping your makeup inside the bathroom. And this is for obvious reasons; you eliminate your waste here.  But as gross as this may sound, whenever you flush the toilet, bacteria can easily spread , and attach itself to  your brushes, particularly if you store them in an upright position. Instead, keep them in a dry place such as your vanity to keep them clean and free from those pesky bugs.

3. Keep Your Brushes Clean

I know, it’s a pain but sometimes we can get really lazy about keeping our makeup brushes clean. But it is a must. This is more than ever true if you share your brushes with other people. Deep clean your makeup brushes each week and do spot cleaning treatments by using a good low  alcohol based brush cleaner. Brushes that are used for liquids or creams should be cleaned  more often  because keeping them moist will eventually grow bacteria.

4. Blot Then Retouch

If you tend to get oily very easily, it is best to use a blotting paper first before dabbing on your pressed or loose powder. Your applicator will just absorb the excess oils from your face and it will eventually collect germs you would much rather avoitd. Blotting will also prevent your face from looking too cakey.

Remember that  by not parcticing good hygene and treating your products carelessly  can and will y cause infections. So, if you want to avoid breakouts and other problems with your skin, take extra care of your products .  You will be able to avoid infections and you will gain the increased bonus of extending the shelf- life of your make-up products.
