Robert Jones constantly gets asked these questions about lip liner:

1. Do I have to wear lip liner?
2. What color should my lip liner be?
3. Should my lip liner show?
4. What is the purpose of lip liner?
5. Is lip liner on trend?

Here’s the 411 on lip liner as Robert Jones sees it:

Many of you may not even be using it, and that is fine! But here are some of the benefits you get from using it and what you really should know about lip liner:

Mary Kay Lip LIner in Clear: Great for all Shades of Lipstick and Lip Goss!

1. You do not have to wear it and many women (especially those who just wear lip gloss) are choosing not to wear it right now, and that is perfectly OK! But if you choose to wear a lip liner with lip gloss, you may wish to use a clear lip liner like Mary Kay® Cosmetics Lip LIner in Clear. The Clear Lip Liner is great for use with all shades and coverage levels of lip gloss and lipstick. A clear lip liner also is the perfect choice for those who may not be as skilled with a colored liner, but still want to prevent feathering and bleeding of their lip colors

2. Your color choice is pretty simple – you can wear a neutral shade just a tiny bit darker than your natural lip color with almost every lip color you wear. The main exception is if you are wearing red or a very dark shade, because that soft, neutral shade will wash out the color. In those situations, use a darker lip liner shade with red or dark lipstick to keep the color intensity!

3. No, your lip liner should not show! It is totally OFF trend for your lip liner to show. In all cases, except for really dark shades, use a lip liner a little lighter than your lip color choice!

4. The purpose of lip liner is two-fold. First, it helps define your lips (gives them a much more definite edge and can also even their appearance out), and secondly it helps your lip color last longer (because the texture is drier and stays on longer! What you want to do in this case is to line your lips then color them in with the lip liner under your lip color. )

5. Lip liner is currently not in trend! Or, should I say, seeing lip liner is currently not in trend. When using lip liner (again, unless you are using a REALLY dark shade of lipstick), choose a shade slightly lighter than your lip color choice.

6. Because the delicate lip area is prone to excessive moisture loss and as lips age, the lips become thinner and fine lines and wrinkles become more obvious on and around the lips, a lip liner is an absolute must for the woman who wants a more defined, polished lip or for those who may be concerned with feathering or bleeding of their lip color. The advanced Lip Liners from Mary Kay® do more than provide natural color definition, they have additional skin care benefits such as age-fighting ingredients that help protect lips and help them appear smooth while creating a perfectly polished look. The neutral shades are similar to the natural tones of the lip so the liners blend in with lips and coordinate with Mary Kay® Creme Lipsticks and Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus™ Lip Glosses.

There you have it! Now you can make an educated decision on whether or not you want to use a lip liner and if you do, what your perfect shade is.

Most importantly, have fun creating your own signature look! Tell us what you think. Please leave a comment below or you can give us a Quick Tweet or comment on our <a title="Lipstick and Other Things with Carla W.
Summer has approached rapidly, and now it’s time to have some fun lounging in the sand and surf. While you may have toiled away getting your body in peak performance, your face and skin shouldn’t be neglected. Just because you’re chilling at the beach, doesn’t mean you can’t look ravishing in makeup. The Image Beauty website the other day and found tons of beauty supplies that you’ll want to have in your beach bag this summer! Or you can visit my Mary Kay Personal Website to find what you need as well.

When packing beauty supplies for any summer outing, it’s important to have waterproof cosmetics. Every woman should have a bold eyeliner to cast drama on the eyes. Eyeliner that isn’t waterproof will run when you’re sweaty or wet from the pool. A quality waterproof eyeliner and mascara will go a long way in keeping you looking fresh and radiant the whole day.

When it comes to foundations, certain products can become uncomfortable, oily or tacky in the heat. We all tend to be a bit greasier in the summer. The right makeup can actually counter this. It’s important to make sure any moisturizer you’re using is oil free. You want something that will absorb into the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

The next tool you’ll need is a foundation primer. A good mattifying primer will keep your foundation in top shape all day through various conditions, while also preventing shine. Your foundation should be infused with powder, so as to absorb any excess moisture you may incur throughout the day. Oily foundations are a no-go.

When you’re thinking about colors, you really want to stick to shades that are lighter and brighter. Dark eye shadows and heavy liner tend to look too overbearing and muddy in the summertime. You want to appear bright and vibrant, so try to go as natural as possible. A bit of highlighter, thin liner and subtle blush is all you really need.You know the old adage: Less is More? Well it’s true! Less makeup will also lessen any anxiety you have about your cosmetics sliding and smearing across your face in the heat.

Hair is another feature that often loses in the battle against summer. If you want to avoid frizz, or your straightened hair reverting back to a poof ball, invest in some humidity fighting hairspray. You’ll want to keep a bottle on hand when you’re shuffling about in the sun, a spritz can save your hair from a meltdown.

Beyond makeup and hair care, one of the most important beauty supplies during the summer months is sunscreen. Whether your skin is especially alabaster or deepest bronze, you definitely want to make sure you apply a hydrating sunscreen before you go out and about in the sun. Excessive tanning is known to be harmful to the skin, and an overabundance of radiation levels (UVA/UVB) can put you at higher risk for developing skin cancer.

So if you’re going to tan, don’t overdo it. If your skin is pale, be sure to start out with a sunscreen that’s SPF 35 or higher. As your skin gets darker, you can decrease the SPF.

As long you keep your wits about you and think about what’s going to be the most comfortable, you should feel as beautiful as the summer sun!

So, tell us what you think. What other supplies do you need to stay fresh and beautiful this summer. Leave us a comment below or you can comment on our Facebook Page, our Google Plus Page or you can give us a Quick Tweet.
Hello and Good Morning. This is a post of the Monday Mingle Business Edition, a MEME hosted by Lynsey Jones, The Party Plan Coach. The purpose of this MEME is to help you get acquainted with different aspects of my Party Plan Business. Just in case is has not been said in a while, I am a Home Based Entrepreneur with Mary Kay Cosmetics. I am trying something different with this MEME. I am posting the more business related questions on my blog In the Party Biz, and I am posting the more personal questions here on Beauty and the Best.

Today’s Buning Question is:

Do you have ANY Superstitions?

I have heard it said, that if you believe in GOD, you have no superstitions. But the converse to that argument is, that if you believe in GOD, you believe in the things that are Anti-GOD. It’s an old existential argument – You cannot believe in good without believing in evil and you cannot believe in evil without believing in a Good and Gracious higher power which will protect you from evil. Whoa – Where did that come from. This is way to esoteric and way over the head.

So how about this tact. I don’t step on cracks in the sidewalk. I try not to break mirrors. I don’t walk under ladders. When I split a pole with someone, I say “Bread and Butter” and likewise when I and someone else speak in unison. So yeah, I have some superstitions. But all of these practices were learned in childhood. And who can argue with the teachings of childhood? I bet you are wondering about the Black Cat Question? Do I run the other way when I see a black cat? Not any more. Not since my beloved (and dearly departed) Onyx and now my way too sweet Toopak-Sha-Kitty, who incidently kept the bad Ju-Ju away when my blood pressure was way too high last year – but then that’s another story to be told at a later date.

Don’t Run from this Guy.

Truth is, I think we all grow up with superstitions. And we tend to notice the bad things that happen after we break the rules concerning superstitions. But bad things will happen regardless of whether or not you step on a crack or walk under a ladder or break a mirror. Case in point: If you step on a crack on a sidewalk, you may fall because the sidewalk is uneven. If you walk under a ladder, you may have a bucket of paint or nails dumped on your head by accident. Or if you break a mirror, you just may cut yourself. Bad things happen. If you look for them you will find them. Even if you pick up a black cat and rub his soft fur. The trick is to think positive thoughts and attract the good of the world to you instead of the bad. Not that’s something to think about.

Tell us what you think. Do you have any superstitions? Do you believe in superstitions? Do you believe that we should give them any credance or should we ignore them as hokem and nonsensical notions from childhood? Please leave a comment on my Facebook Page, My Google Plus Page or Give me a Quick Tweet. If I left out any superstitions, let me know.

Spring has finally sprung (at least here in the Southern US) and it is time to get out of those bulky sweaters and snuggley turtlenecks. But you are wondering what would be appropriate. Your blouses are too fancy and you just don’t want to head to Target’s or Marshall’s yet. I hear you; me neither but not because I don’t want to shop for any of the beautiful things in the stores. I just know I can use what I have in my closet. A plain T-Shirt is the one classic item that a woman should have in her closet and that one piece is what we are focusing on today. Because it is one of those basic pieces that you can either dress up or dress down depending on the occasion or your mood, it is one of the easiest pieces to help you transition into a lighter look. You can wear your T-shirt casually during errands or you can jazz it up with statement piece accessories that you already own. Either way, adding your own pizzazz to what is usually considered a boring piece of clothing, can give you endless possibilities to bring out your own personality. Here are 3 easy ways to dress up a plain t-shirt without breaking your budget.

3 BUDGET CONSCIOUS WAYS TO DRESS UP A PLAIN T-SHIRT

1. Keep It Classic

If you are a woman who prefers a sleek and polished look, then this option is for you. Dress up your shirt with a blazer and chunky accessories. An easy, breezy t-shirt with either a scooped neck or a v-neck would work well. Choose a blazer that can best complement the shirt. If you have a white shirt, a black or navy blazer will make the t-shirt pop. Cuff the sleeves of your blazer to add a more polished look (this works best if your blazer is unlined). A statement necklace brings the entire look together. This works well paired with dark washed skinny jeans and a pair of wedged heels. You can also mix and match with different colors and textures.

2. Light and Airy

Another option is to put a light and airy sweater over your t-shirt. This is one of the most casual ways to dress up your Tee this Spring. Try using those easy, breezy sweaters that go all the way to your rear. This is best paired with skinny jeans and a sweet pair of ballet flats. If it’s not that chilly outside, you can show your legs by pairing this look with one of your denim skirts. Add on a bright and colorful silk scarf and a chunky bracelet as your main accessory pieces. This will add another dimension to your Spring look. Make sure that the cardigan is neutral colored so that it can go well with other color combinations. Bring the look together with a simple statement bag and you’re all set.

3. Relaxed and Casual

If you have a few long T-shirts that are still in the back of your closet, bring them back out again. Pair it with a long flowing vest for that effortless look. Wear this combo over a pair of leggings and your favorite pair of sneakers. (I’d suggest that you go out and get a pair of the new Sketchers Walkers but we are staying out ot the store. Oops!) A statement necklace and some bangles along with a messenger style bag will definitely pull this look together.

Where are you getting your fashion finds?

As you can see, there are quite a few ideas that you can use to help you jazz up your plain, un-interesting T-Shirts. When you bring some life into them by trying one of these budget conscious ideas to dress up your plain t-shirt, just by simply putting things together that you already own, you will breathe life into your wardrobe without spending a dime to do it.

Spring is finally here and it is time to slough off the winter blahs. The best way to do this is to discover ways of become more positive in our everyday lives. It is important to develop the habit of “Accentuating the Positive and Eliminating the Negative” whether it is in the people around us, the thoughts in our heads or the situations we find ourselves in.

I bet you are wondering what this has to do with your beauty routines. But how you feel on the inside, can and will affect your outside appearance. It stands to reason that if you feel happy and in control, you will show up as a much more confident and self-assured individual.

While some people seem to have been born happy, others have to work at finding a positive outlook on life. But whatever side of the “happiness blanket” you were born on, your attitude is sure to change several times a day depending on what is going on in your life. Ask yourself this question:

Where Am I on the Optimism Scale?

Your choices are from 1 (being the lowest – I am so deep down depressed, that the concept of happiness, optimism and positivity are dirty words) to 10 (Life is so Great and I am the quintessential Optimist). Be honest with yourself. Are you a confirmed pessimist at a 1, 2 or 3? Or are you considered a fence sitter at 5 or 6, afraid to even make a decision as to whether you even want to be happy? If you are in these two groups, here are some ways to help you become more positive and join the group of 7, 8, 9 and 10’s.

5 Ways to Becoming More Positive

1. View Your Problems as Challenge

I know this is easier said than done, but if you view these challenges as opportunities to find creative solutions, you just may learn something about yourself from the actions you have taken. Start with small challenges like misplaced items or “messy” rooms in your home. What can you think of to keep your items in their rightful places?

2. Surround Yourself with Successful Positive People

Optimism and successfulness are contagious. The more positive people are, the more they attract others to them. It has been said that you become like the 5 people you hang around with the most. So, who do you know who is positive, no matter what the situation?

3.     Keep a “Win” List

In your planner or purse, keep a running list of things you like about yourself. It could be that you like your beautiful complexion, or you like your “service minded” attitude. You may also want to write down the things you know that you did well. Consider things like the well researched report you gave last week or the delicious cookies you baked for a friend. When you are feeling down, refer back to your “win” list as a quick pick me up and as a reminder that you ARE a great person and you DO have something to offer others. Guaranteed your spirits will begin to soar.

4.     Set Small Attainable Goals

Whether you are at home or at work, set smaller, attainable goals so that you will feel successful. Break down larger goals into smaller goals and then break those down into small action steps. As you accomplish each step toward your bigger goals, you will feel more accomplished and like you are getting things done. And as you reach your goals, set new ones. You will find yourself striving to higher heights with more confidence.

5.     Read for Inspiration

Try to read several pages of an inspirational book or story daily. Or you can listen to motivational cd’s. Remember, a positive message at the beginning of your day can really boost your spirits throughout the day. Don’t have time to start your day off with an inspirational message? Try reading in 10 or 15 minute increments. This will help you relieve your stress and boost your positivity.

So, now that the season has finally changed from one where you are expected to be introverted and pessimistic to Spring, where the coming warmth and the lengthening days just seem to make you happier, we have tips to help us get in a more positive mood. While not every suggestion will work on the first try, and not every suggestion may be for you, it is truly worth the effort to give yourself a quick mental “shake”. Once you start feel better on the inside, you tend to look better on the outside. Or is that because you have found a great reason within yourself to smile?

Today… I am recycling a post that I had on an earlier version of my blog. I really wanted to give something I found to be valuable. And Share something I felt needed to be shared. So… I am sharing an article written by my business and life coach Lisa Robbin Young. You may know her as The Renaissance Mom and the owner of The Direct Sales Classroom. She originally posted this blog post a few years ago but I find it to be just as relevant now as it was then.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the past 24 hours it feels as though I have awakened from a 35 year coma. I can’t begin to explain everything here, at least not yet. But new realities have come into my field of vision, and I’m seeing the world through somewhat different eyes. As moms, we often think that we are doing so much for everyone else, and we don’t have a voice of our own. Sometimes we feel squelched.  Today, I realized I’ve been squelching myself in ways I never recognized; ways I never comprehended.  And it changes starting now.
During this process of “awakening” if you will, I heard a quote on the radio. It moved me so, that I had to find the author and share it with you. In the past few days, it hit me that as long as our hands are clenched, we cannot give, nor can we receive. Further, if all we do is take, eventually there’s nothing left to take. If all we do is give, eventually, there’s nothing left to give. Thus, we must give and take in order to keep balance and maintain a “karmic equilibrium” so to speak.
This passage from Dr. Margaret Rinck spoke to me. And so I offer it to those of you dealing with clenched fists – whether they’re yours or someone else’s:
To Let Go Takes Love
by Dr. Margaret J. Rinck
To “let go” does not mean to stop caring. It means I can’t do it for someone else.
To “let go” is not to cut myself off. It’s the realization that I can’t control another.
To “let go” is not to enable, but to allow learning from natural consequences.
To “let go” is not to try to change or blame another. It’s to make the most of myself.
To “let go” is not to care for, but to care about.
To “let go” is not to fix, but to be supportive.
To “let go” is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being.
To “let go” is not to be in the middle, arraging all the outcomes, but to allow others to affect their own destinies.
To “let go” is not to be protective; it’s to permit another to face reality.
To “let go” is not deny, but to accept.
To “let go” is not to nag, scold or argue, but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.
To “let go” is not to adjust everything to my desires, but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it.
To “let go” is not to regret the past, but to grow and live for the future.
To “let go” is to fear less and to love more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So… Let Go and Let GOD, be kind, especially to yourselves. That’s what I’m going to do. What about you?

Okay girls, it’s time! I know it is definitely the beginning of Spring but it feels like Winter for most of you, BUT it is also definitely the perfect time to start preparing for Spring. With makeup, that means it is time to start investing in the colors you will need for the season!

Lips are colorful, yet sheer. A great coral or warm pink is perfect! You are going to really want one of the new, sheer formulas out there. *Remember: with a colorful lip you will want a neutral eye!

It is the perfect time for a soft wash of color on your eye. The color of choice this year is a soft, greenish-blue. Very Convenient since the wardrobe color choice this Spring Season is Emerald Green – although diffrent shades of green was spotted on the runways this year. Don’t Forget: with a colorful eye you want a neutral lip!

Not everything loves your hair. Salt water, chlorine, heat, chemicals in beauty products/treatments, bleach, hair dyes, high heat emitting dryers, straighteners, unbalanced diet, lack of sleep, stress and depression have be very harsh towards your precious locks. Below are some hair treatment tips that will restore the shine and strength in your dull, damaged hair.

Shampoo With The Right Formula

Damaged hair is dry and brittle, and lacks luster. For damaged hair, use a protein shampoo with humectants that repairs dull and damaged hair.

Use A Heat-Activated Moisturizing Conditioner

Too much heat can damage your hair. When you are styling your hair using heat styles, you should first apply heat-activated moisturizing conditioner and then cover your hair with a plastic cap. Apply hair dryer to your hair as directed on the conditional label. This heat will cause the deep conditioner to penetrate deep into the hair.

Shampooing Daily Is Not A Solution

Wash your hair with shampoo once a week. If you have a habit of washing your hair every second day, you can use your conditioner like a shampoo. The conditioner will not make your hair greasy; rather it will clean your scalp without drying your hair. Rinse and comb your hair enjoying the soft silky feel.

Give Up Hot Air Hair Styling Elements

Hair dryers, hair curlers and straightening irons actually ‘cook’ your hair damaging its luster. When they are used at high heat, they are the most dangerous. You should use hair rollers instead to curl your hair. In case if you are using a hair dryer, use it at the coolest setting.

Protein Treatments

Protein treatments are deep intensifying treatments that repair your damaged hair by filling in the damaged cuticles. Be careful when you choose protein treatments based on the extent of your dry and damaged hair. Use a moisturizing conditioner after your protein treatment.

Try Some Homemade Hair Treatments

Egg Wash

Mix egg white with water and add some honey. Moisten your hair with warm water and apply the egg mixture. Leave it on your hair for 10 minutes and then rinse it off.

Oil And Vinegar

Apply olive oil to your hair and leave it overnight covering with a soft cloth. Rinse it white vinegar the next day before shampooing your hair. If you have any dandruff, the white vinegar will wash it away and adds a bit of sparkle to your hair. The oil will smooth out dry and damaged hair, repairing it to the core.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise does not only taste better in your burger but it works as the best moisturizer for your hair. Apply mayonnaise overnight on your hair and cover with plastic. Rinse off the next morning. You may even apply it and leave for one to two hours before you step into the shower.

Mineral Oil

Damaged hair appears rough and is prone to breakage. Place a few drops of mineral oil on your hair and spread on your hair to add a natural sheen.

Mark is a Hair loss consultant. One of the most common question that people with hair loss ask is how much does a Hair transplant cost and that’s something which is related to how much hair you need.

With TV shows like the New Girl and The Big Bang Theory dominating the ratings, more attention has recently been paid to the rise of ‘geek chic.’ It is not unusual to walk around fashion hot spots these days and see clothing and accessories typically associated with your stereotypical geek being worn. In order to jump on the bandwagon with this trend, you need not buy an entirely new wardrobe, but instead, only add some accessories, such as pins or glasses. These simple add-ons can make a huge impact as you give your look a geek overhaul.

Rise of the ‘Hipster Glasses’

Geek Chic for the Eyes!

Remember the days when people who wore glasses were made fun of? Not anymore. Everyone wants to be a four-eyes now. Hipster glasses or geek chic frames are typically plastic, thick-framed specs with fake lenses in them, making it very easy for those without vision problems to incorporate them into their everyday look. They have become so popular that they have even made a big splash in Hollywood with everyone from David Beckham to Katy Perry sporting the glasses, and according to the Optician’s Handbook, optometrists are finding it more and more common to have people coming into their businesses looking for the faux spectacles.

Getting Crafty

Part of becoming geek chic means being unique—kind of an oxymoron when discussing a major trend but necessary nonetheless. If you really want to stand out from the crowd, then you should consider getting all DIY with your accessories and wardrobe pieces. Being Geek Chic explains that it is easy to make a unique piece that you love and that is original enough while still being appropriate for work and school.

Pins are for More Than Just Your Lapel

Adds New Meaning to the Words “Pin Me”!

Part of being geek chic is embracing the unusual, and one great way to do this is through the use of pins or broaches. Being Geek Chic explains that pins are her number one favorite geek chic accessory as there are so many choices out there, and they can also be gender neutral, making it perfect for men and women alike. She suggests searching vintage stores for some truly kitschy and unique pieces which you can then integrate into your wardrobe by sporting them on your lapel, on a necklace, on a purse of clutch, on a headband, or any other number of other ways.

Make it Your Own

While you may be following a trend, that does not mean you have to seem unoriginal. Take the popular items and incorporate them into your wardrobe in your own way to become truly geek chic.

Audrey Hepburn’s make-up as young socialite Holly Golightly in the cult film Breakfast at Tiffany’s has been one of the most sought after looks of the last 50 years. It’s not surprising given that the film is a classic and Audrey is an icon.

She caused a huge stir among the public with her new look for this film. In all previous films her make-up was ‘very 1950s’, but Breakfast at Tiffany’s was released in 1961 and was the first time she had graced the big screens without donning the heavy brows and bright lipstick. Her look was now clean, fresh and all about her big, round eyes.

It was certainly characteristic of the 60s. However as the film was released early on in the decade it was only just beginning to ride the wave of heavy eyeliner and big flicks. This has transformed her look into a timeless and classic one.

Recreate The Look Yourself

It might be an iconic look but it is one that can be easily recreated at home. Remember to keep the tones clean and fresh and hold back on the bronzer brush.

Start by applying your primer, concealer and foundation. Smooth it across your skin evenly so that it covers any blemishes and creates an airbrushed look.

The next step is the eyes. Whether you choose to wear liquid, gel or pencil you should start by tracing across the base of your eyelashes, getting right down to the roots to add real depth to your eyes. From the centre point of your eye you should sweep outwards across your eyelid, keeping the line the same thickness the whole way across. Softly trace in a thinner line that leads towards the inner corner of your eye. For the flick, make sure that you’re looking straight on into the mirror and trace the line in until you’re happy with it, and then fill in so that it’s darker. (See the video tutorial for this in action).

Audrey’s lashes are long and feathery in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and you can easily recreate this look by wearing false eyelashes. Simply curl your own lashes and add a thin layer of mascara to keep them curled, and then apply the false eye lashes on top.

While Audrey’s brows are a lot softer in this film, they are naturally thick. Brush an eyebrow pencil across your brows in light, feathery strokes until you reach the right shade and shape, and then using an eyebrow brush comb through the hairs and break them up to prevent it looking like one block colour.

No bronzer needs to be added to your face, but a slight rosy pink blush should be swept high across your cheek bones.

Finally for the lips. Audrey steps away from the bright and bold lipstick in Breakfast at Tiffany’s so you will need a very subtle orangey pink. Softly trace over your lips with lip liner, adding a very subtle outline on the edge of your lower lip, and then a layer of lipstick over the top.

And that’s it. It’s a quick and easy way to create an iconic look and you can even do it on a budget. Check out the video above for an even more in-depth focus on the evening look where Audrey wore a little eye shadow to enhance her eyes.

Next you just need to find a tiara and chunky diamond necklace…but that’s up to you!
