The Original Monday Mingle Ring, Ring, Beep Beep Beep, Clickety ClackHello and Welcome to today’s Monday Mingle  a MEME hosted by Jennifer over at Eighty MPH Mom.com. This is a MEME where we ask / answer everyday innocuous questions and here’s the tricky part… You get to know me and how I think… IS that TMI?

Questions for today:

1. How many rings does it take you to answer the phone?
2. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
3. How fast do you type? Did you learn to type in school?

Well:

Don't Call Me, I'll Call You!

I don’t like the phone. IF it rings, it is either  a telemarketer or someone asking for a donation for something  or someone looking for my son because he isn’t answering his cell phone.  Very rarely do I “run” to pick up the phone. I screen my calls. So, I have the “ringer” set for four rings and straight to the answering service. I like Verizon in that way.  And don’t let me put the phone on “delayed ring” because then it will ring only twice, and of course I can’t make it to the phone to look at the caller ID. But then, anyone I want or need to talk to has my cell phone number and if that rings, I KNOW that I geve them that number and I’ll answer it usually on the second ring. I like my ringtone so I like to hear it play.

Just Five More Minutes!

The first thing I usually think about when I get up is … Turn off the alarm. Gosh, my alarm is annoying. A harsh beep, beep, beep, with some blurp behind the main tone. And then my next thought is  “I need a cup of Joe” you know Java the Cup, or is that the Movie? And once I smell the rich aroma of Folgers in the pot, my day unwinds. And of course, I attend to thet things I need to attend to. And anyway… who gets up when the alarm clock goes off? I don’t… I usually press the button several times for 5 more minutes times 3.

Click, Clack, Clickety, Clack

Immediately when I read that question I thought of the book  Click Clack Moo, Cow’s That Type. A Scholastic Children’s book I  bought when my son was in the first grade. I thought it was cute. Cow’s typing (seemingly on an Underwood) to tell the farmer they wanted blankets because it was cold at night. Well, anyway, the last time I checked, I typed between 40 – 45 words a minute.  Nothing really to sneeze at.  I learned how to type, not in high school or business school,  but funnily enough at The Industrial Home for the Blind in Hempstead New York, when I was getting my first training i needed when I had lost most of my useable vision.  I think the premise was to learn basic skills which would serve me later in “life” .  I also learned how to read Braille, although I am rusty now.  But… when I went to Manhattan College, I had to type papers,  so I learned to type better with an electric Smith Coronaa. And now that I am in the PC age, I type at the speed of my thoughts. Which, when I am  writing blog posts, are intermmittent.  Even with an aerodynamic wireless keyboaard  and all!

Anyway, thank your for reading my Monday MIngle musings. This is a blog hop, or should I say vlog hop, and I would really like to read your anwers or watch your vlogged anwers so, go on over to eightymphmom.com and join in.

    • Hi Annie, You are right… the alarm is annoying. And you are right… just as soon as you go to sleep, it goes off.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. Please come back soon!

  4. Ewww I hate the alarm too! My husband is notorious for hitting the snooze button about 15 times. It drives me up the wall. I just prefer to get up and get it over with, ya know?

That is too funny about the Smith Corona. I remember how fast I could go on the IBM Selectric. We sure have come a long way, haven’t we?

You are such a joy to know :)

    • Hi Jen, That old typewriter still exists; it’s under an armoire that houses extra stuff. I just can’t bear to part with it.

As for the snooze, i’ve been getting up lately with the alarm…. Why prolong the inevitable.

And it is real nice to get to know you too. Don’t know why it took me so long to jump on board the Monday Mingle… it susre is fun and self enlightening. And I am enjoying all the posts/vlogs.

  5. Cute blog! Thanks for stopping by on my SITS day :)

    • Hi Sara, I enjoyed visiting your blog and I am so glad you stopped by to take a look at mine.I really appreciate it. I hope you come back time to time to see what’s new here.

  6. When we had a home phone I hated answering it, too. Always screened. You’re right more often than not it’s some telemarketer or survey blah blah. Annoying. ;)

Ugh alarms are the bane of my existance in the morning. My husband is notorious for hitting snooze 10 times before getting up. Drives me up a wall. I throw elbows in the morning when the alarm goes off LOL

Gosh, now I feel the need to see just how fast I type. I wonder… I remember Click Clack Moo – such a cute book. I miss typewriters. I’ve often felt tempted to buy a working typewriter just to teach my daughter how to type. It was a great way to learn.

Hope you have a great week!

    • Hi Erin,

I think it is the procrastinator in me that makes me hit the snooze button…

I think that every home office /kitchen / family room needs a typewriter. NOt only to teach our children how to type but as a back up for printing envelops, recipe cards etc.

Some things, just can’t be done from a keyboard.
